Top destinations – Switzerland

With the capital Bern, Switzerland is a charming European country made of 26 cantons united in 1848.It is placed between Italy, Germany, Liechtenstein, France and Austria. Each canton has its own constitution, parliament courts and government. However, there are numerous differences between cantons: in terms of population, economy, politics, history… This proves that Switzerland has a lot of different stuff to show you. No matter which time of the year you decide to visit it, you will have a great holiday. This jewel has more than enough to offer you.

First thing that comes up to mind is skiing in the Swiss Alps. Some of the most popular and exclusive skiing destinations in the world are in Switzerland.
For example Crans-Montana. Actually, it is Crans and Montana, the two neighboring resorts. This place is family friendly. It’s ideal both for beginners and advanced skiers (advanced ones should take the chairlift to La Toula, a really challenge). Also, you must be prepared that Crans-Montana is quite expensive!

Then you have one more popular – St. Moritz. Actually, it is one of the most famous holiday resorts in the world. There are 350 kilometers of tracks for sports lovers. But if you don’t like skiing, this place is like a small version of some cosmopolitan city. Fancy restaurants, chic bars, exclusive shops…you name it, St. Moritz’s got it!

While in Switzerland, make sure you visit Geneva and it’s charming sights: the Flower clock (made of some 6500 flowering perennials and annuals, is 5 meters in diameter), Palais des Nations (it was the home ot the League of Nations originally, then the home for the European arm of the UN), Cathedrale St. Pierre (this marvelous building is the place where John Calvin established the Reformed Church in the 16th century)…

Often wrongfully thought to be the capital, Zürich is the largest Swiss town. Right next to the town, there is a wonderful Lake Zürich. If you come in summer, you can swim there. But you can have a romantic boat ride any time of the year. Zürich offers you the best from the past and the best of the modern times – Gothic churches and hip clubbing.

Not a sight to be seen, but there is one more thing you must not miss while in Switzerland – it’s gastronomy. If you still haven’t tried Swiss cheese or chocolate, now’s the right time!

If you want to bring home a souvenir, but you know you won’t resist eating cheese or chocolate, Swiss army knife is a great idea. Of course, if traveling by plane it might be a problem to bring one so here’s another great idea – a watch! Switzerland is famous for them.

One more Swiss symbol is a Saint Bernard’s dog. Of course you won’t bring one home with you, but maybe you’ll buy one when you get home.
