Taylor Swift VMA Drama

The entire world was watching the Video Music Awards when Taylor Swift was deprived her moment in the spot light after winning best female music video. (Unless, of course, you were me and was trying to study and saw everyone’s facebook updates and youtube’d it 2 minutes after it happened.) But, if in fact you were one of the only people in the entire world not watching, here is what went down: Taylor Swift won the Best Female Video. Beyonce did not. Taylor goes up on stage to receive her award and begins her acceptance speech. Then, none other than Kayne West himself got up onstage and announced the following: “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time.” In the end, the audience was left speechless, Taylor Swift lost for words and Beyonce embarrassed.

About 2 minutes after it happened, the clip immediately could be found all over YouTube and about four thousand articles had probably already been written. People were going crazy twittering, Facebooking and blogging about how selfish Kayne was and how badly he embarrassed Taylor Swift. I believe that most people are in agreement about how ridiculous that entire stunt was. However, aside from that, maybe it ended up being good publicity for Taylor Swift. After the initial embarrassment was over, Taylor was awarded another chance to give her acceptance speech when Beyonce won the Best Video Award.

“It wasn’t even his place to do something like that.” Marist Junior Sabrina said. “He ruined it for her. What Beyonce did proved she is a classy lady. It made Kanye look like an even bigger jerk because it proved that Beyonce did not even want him to do that for her.”

After her second acceptance speech, the crowd stood up and cheered for Taylor showing their unconditional support. As a result of Kayne’s bizarre stunt, Taylor Swift came off looking innocent and embarrassed. Although this most likely is not the result she was looking for after winning the Best Female Video Award, it is however better then looking like a train wreck like Britney Spears. Many young women look up to Taylor Swift. Taylor kept herself composed, and as a result kept her dignity (Something Kayne may have lost).

“Taylor really handled herself well on stage. Kanye was just looking for an extra 15 minutes of fame and some publicity the next morning. Taylor ended up being the victim.” Marist Senior Theresa said.

Kanye also may have done some permanent damage to his public image. A website was even created to make fun of Kanye. On “ImmaLetYouFinish.com” people have been posting sayings and pictures mocking Kanye’s quote from that night. There, people have been posting sayings such as “Yo Jon and Kate, I’m really happy for you, and imma let you finish, but Jessica and Nick had the best reality tv marriage trainwreck of all time.” This website definitely helps to prove how absurd Kanye’s stunt was and ban together in support of Taylor Swift.

Not only did he steal Taylor Swift’s moment of fame but also robbed her of her acceptance speech and her immediate excitement. In the end, Kanye lost about half his dignity, Taylor Swift realized how many fans truly appreciated her and her music and Beyonce got to show the world how kind she may really be. Maybe had Kanye waited a little while longer, he could have saved Beyonce and Taylor Swift some embarrassment and most of all could have saved his own dignity.
